Are there any Tokyo/Chiba area folks who want a little black kitten?
Yesterday during cleaning time some of my elementary school students found an abandoned kitten outside, near the school, in the rain. They brought the kitten in. It was very small, maybe one week old, and its eyes were dirty and crusted shut. I warmed up the kitten, cleaned it until it could see again, and fed the kitten with and eye dropper. Another teacher took the kitten to the vet last night. The vet says that it ishealthy and lucky. It is small, all black, and as of yet the sex is unknown.
I am taking care of the kitten tonight (regular bottle formula feedings and cleaning) but my apartment does not allow pets. No other teachers are in a position to adopt. School is out for the summer, and it's easy to get kids to fall in love with kittens... but parents are another matter. I don't know how long I'll be able to care for the kitten, or how much I can get the other teachers to help.

Sun, July 23, 2006 - 12:25 PMI remember this abandoned kitten problem in Japan, (I lived i the country, tochigi-ken), and I have rehoused many kittens, or had to put down some too sick to recover.. I found the in many places, usually near or in the garbage, even 4 of them covered in kerosene once..
When I had to get rid of a whole handful quickly, I went to the local primary school where I knew a kid. They all went to homes I knew of.
Since school is out, I might try a juku, since some of them run summer courses..
Or outside the outdoor swimming pool just before the afternoon thunderstorm (when everyone goes home). Since my japanese wasnt good enough to give lengthy explanations, I put together a little written note to explain what I was doing, with contact details, in case they wanted to give me a call later.
Hope you find a home for it soon.. and remember to explain to them to have it neutered/spayed in time, so there wont be more unwanted kittens...( in Tochigi there was a government scheme where you get given a voucher to reduce the cost of it, ask at the city hall).

Sun, July 23, 2006 - 3:27 PMI work at an elementary school, the kitten was actually found by second graders during cleaning time. We're trying with the students who come for pool time while school is out.
Right now I've got a two pronged approach with pimping the kitten at the school and with local eccentric bellydancers.
